Austin Li Chang is a self-taught biographical oil painter whose work is deeply inspired by the reflexes of Impressionism and Expressionism. As a hospital nurse frequently exposed to topics of mortality, he is taken by how moments of profound experiences are afforded minimal attention and presence. His practice explores the recalibrative potential of painting, confronting disturbances created from automation, speed, and efficiency. Austin’s first exhibition was at the AHL Foundation in Manhattan, and he has since participated in group shows in Brooklyn and Miami. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, and has been awarded the Denis Diderot A-i-R Grant for 2026.
